If I could tell you just one thing about Pei Shi, it would be…her love for music!

Ng Pei Shi, the conductor of Penang Junior Orchestra (PJO) since 2018 and violinist of Penang Symphony Orchestra (PSO) since 2014. Born and raised in Selangor, Pei Shi started her music journey at the age of 3 and came to Penang in 2014 for further studies after she decided to pursue her dream as a musician. She holds the Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Performance & Pedagogy, minoring in Psychology from University Sains Malaysia. Additionally, Pei Shi also obtained her Post Graduate of Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 2019 and International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Year Programme Certification in 2020.

Pei Shi is an experienced educator who has been teaching piano and violin, especially working with children to create an inspiring musical journey. Pei Shi has a gift and love for teaching, passing on her passion for music to students in a way that motivates them, and tailoring every lessons to meet each students’ needs and goals. Her personal goal as a music educator is to nurture her students in becoming global citizens and lifelong musicians. She focuses not just on techniques but also provide students with play based learning while leading them towards music appreciation, live performances and examinations.

Pei Shi’s time in Penang was full of musical adventures. Besides teaching in school and privately, she frequently performs with Penang Symphony Orchestra and also leading Penang Junior Orchestra’s weekly rehearsal to further prepare the young musicians for their concerts. From getting to know the PJO musicians better, learning everyone’s instrumental part, to exploring various orchestra repertoires of Baroque to Pop genre, and building effective teamwork among orchestra mates, was a definite enjoyment for Pei Shi! She has also concert toured to Hong Kong in 2014 and Xia Men in 2016 with Penang Symphony Orchestra as part of cultural exchange. Pei Shi was also invited as the guest performer for Shatin Philharmonic Orchestra at Hong Kong in the year 2014. Above all, Pei Shi is proud to be part of the fine music making with this orchestra family. Pei Shi has also participated in numerous music festivals and workshops from far and near as she believed every teacher must also be a lifelong learner. In the past years, she has attended Early Music Education workshop by Kodaly, Dalcroze workshop, Orff Schulwerk music workshop and many more.

Pei Shi enthusiastically welcomes everyone’s involvement in music and she looks forward to creative collaborations for the years to come!
